Phishing emails

Phishing emails are fraudulent emails that falsely claim to be from an established and legitimate business in an attempt to scam the recipient into divulging private information that will be used for identity theft.

If you suspect that you have received a phishing email it is best to delete it. Please ensure that you do not click on any links contained within the email, do not open any attachments and do not reply to the mail. If you have any queries regarding the legitimacy of the email it is best to contact the organisation the email purports to be from directly.
As a service provider, Madasafish constantly strives to filter this type of traffic from your inbox. If you are receiving these emails, it's possible that you may not have the Spam Filter turned on.

Instructions for enabling your Spam Filter are available here.

Most banks, building societies and online services, such as ebay and PayPal, have special sections in their websites devoted to information regarding these emails and we recommend that you review their policy.

Tips For Recognising Phishing Emails

  • You will typically not be addressed by your name in the email. Remember that your bank, or legitimate institutions which you do business with, will know your name and will address you by it. Be suspicious of emails starting "Dear Customer".
  • The subject line will frequently state that you need to update or confirm your personal details.
  • Branding and the 'look' of the email can be slightly different from that of the real organisation.
